Orthopedic Foundation for AnimalsThis page last updated November 11, 2008 Notice Regarding the OFA Cardiac Database The OFA has received word that incorrect information is being disseminated that the OFA Cardiac Database is being discontinued as of August 2008. Please be assured this is NOT the case. The OFA is committed to registering cardiac examination results and is committed to the highest standards for cardiac examination protocols as recommended by Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Cardiology Group. The OFA will continue to accept evaluation results from all licensed veterinarians, and will continue to designate the level of expertise of the attending veterinarian through suffixes assigned to the resulting OFA number (P for Practitioner, S for Specialist, C for Cardiologist). In addition, when the examination includes echocardiography, an additional suffix of ECHO is added to the OFA number. The OFA online databases continue to be the world’s most comprehensive resource of health screening results to assist breeders in making more informed breeding decisions in an effort to breed healthier dogs.
